Sacramento County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a man in the death of toddler in Arden Arcade.

Samuel Quinn Crutchor, 30, was arrested on suspicion of homicide and assault resulting in the death of a child under eight years old.

He is suspected in the death of 2-year-old William Philyaw. On Nov. 4 sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2900 block of Watt Avenue for a report of a child who was not breathing.

Deputies learned that the little boy’s mother had left him in the care of another while she was away from the home. Three days later, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s office determined that the child’s death was due to blunt injury to his abdomen.

Child abuse detectives with the sheriff’s department later determined that the actions of Crutchor, the person caring for the child that day, resulted in the death of the toddler, according to a press release.

A warrant was issued for Crutchor’s arrest. He was arrested on Tuesday and booked into Sacramento County Jail.
