Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Douglas had 13 points as the Portland State Vikings narrowly defeated the Sacramento State Hornets, 68-64, in overtime in a Big Sky Conference matchup at The Hornets Nest.
Kyle Richardson registered a double-double for the Vikings (7-7, 2-3 Big Sky). Gary Winston tallied 12 points and six assists.
Mikh McKinney paced the Hornets (5-9, 1-4) with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Jordan Salley logged 10 points as Zach Mills brought down eight rebounds.
Sacramento State made 52.6 percent of its shots from the field in the first half to take a 28-25 lead into the break. The Vikings made 44.4 percent of their field goal attempts including only 1-of-9 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
Portland State shot 55 percent from the floor in the second half. The Hornets connected on 44.4 percent of their field goal tries. With four seconds left Cody Demps made a jumper to tied the game up at 55 and sent the contest into an extra session.
The Vikings played better in overtime by converting on 42.9 percent of their field goal attempts. Sacramento State made just 16.7 percent of its shots from the floor. Portland State led for the entire overtime period.
The Hornets failed to make a 3-pointer which snapped the program's 561 game streak of having at least one make from beyond the arc.
