After 26 days of posting fliers around town, running ads in the Sun-Star, posting on social media sites and alerting our veterinarian that my sons dog, Hunter, had escaped his backyard, Kirk got a phone call from a vet who knew who had Hunter. In Los Angeles! Why Los Angeles? A UC Merced student decided to take him home over the Christmas break. Fortunately, the dog is susceptible to ear infections and had to be taken to the vet, who scanned his microchip, pronounced him a missing dog, and gave Kirk the contact information.
This isnt the only incident of a UC Merced student finding a dog and taking it home. Kirk was smart to have microchipped Hunter. If the student had called animal control, Kirk wouldve had his dog back the next day.
Friends and neighbors, microchip your pets if you want to keep them.
