Crosby named captain of Team Canada

Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh Penguins star forward Sidney Crosby has been named captain of the Canadian squad that will compete in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Hockey Canada made the announcement on Sunday.

This marks the first time Crosby, 26, will don the "C" for Canada's team during international play.

Crosby was an alternate captain for Canada at the 2010 Games in Vancouver, when he scored the overtime goal in the gold-medal game against the United States.

Crosby leads the NHL with 68 points (25 goals, 43 assists).
