Enjoyed reading your full-page ad extolling the virtues of newspapers with cold facts and figures. The one thing missing was the heart of why we read newspapers. When you watch TV news you have to sit through gory stories of child abuse, animal abuse and the worst abuse of all, Congress. When I read the paper I can skip, browse or immerse myself depending on any mood or pique of interest on any given morning. Later that afternoon I go back and read some of the stories I skipped and laugh again at poor Hagar the Horrible.
But the real beauty of newspapers vs. television news is the ads. Watching the tube you have to sit through ad after ad which often include graphic ads of animal abuse and wounded warriors. With the Sun-Star I read the ads that interest me or are so clever to get my attention. I still smile at panties half off sales. And try cutting coupons off the television set for pizza, burgers or sit down restaurants and department store sales.
