Sheriff candidate benefit

A dinner to support Frank Swiggart for Merced County sheriff-coroner will be held Thursday. A no-host cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The meal includes chicken with pasta prepared by Mike Salvadori and crew. The dinner will be held at the Italo-American Lodge, 1351 W. 18th St. Tickets can be purchased at www.swiggartforsheriff.com/feb6dinner or by calling (209) 336-6211. Tickets are $25 each or $500 for a table of 10.

Eat Dessert First fundraiser

Chocolate-dipped strawberries are just one of the special treats that will be available at Eat Dessert First, 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 9. It will be held at Wesley Hall at the Merced United Methodist Church, 899 Yosemite Parkway. This is a fundraiser for Wesley Foundation Merced UC Merced Campus Ministry. Tickets are $12 at the door.

Odd Fellows breakfast

The La Grange Odd Fellows will hold their breakfast at the IOOF Hall in downtown La Grange from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9. The new and improved menu includes biscuits and gravy, sausage, potatoes, French toast and eggs, with a wide choice of omelet ingredients. Complimentary coffee and orange juice round out the meal, all for $6. The 1881 vintage Odd Fellows Hall is located on the main street of La Grange (Highway 132), just east of its intersection with Highway J-59. For more information, call (209) 853-2128.

Church ‘Snack and Play’ event

Atwater Baptist will host its February “Snack and Play” from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 14. Neighbors are invited to bring a board game and a snack to share. The church is at 2124 First St. in Atwater. Call (209) 358-5427 for more information.

Pancake breakfast

The second annual Merced pancake breakfast fundraiser will be held 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 15. Menu items are heart-shaped pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, coffee, orange juice and milk. Bring friends, family and sweethearts to this fun Valentine setting. Serving begins at 8:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive. Tickets are $7.50 each. All proceeds will support the senior nutrition program, Living Well Café and Meals on Wheels. For more information, call Francine at (209) 761-9107.

Rose care workshop

A rose care workshop presented by the Merced County Master Gardeners will be held 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Applegate Park Rose Garden, near M Street between West 26th Street and Bear Creek Drive. Meet at the fountain. Participants will learn how to prune, fertilize and control pests on rose plants. It is a “hands on” workshop.
