A pedestrian was hit by a car by Fresno State in northeast Fresno Thursday, causing a chain reaction collision involving five cars, police Lt. Joe Gomez said.
The accident happened around 6:55 p.m. at the 5100 block of North Cedar Avenue when the pedestrian walked in front of the car for unknown reasons, police said. The driver slammed on the brakes but could not stop in time.
The 53-year-old man was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center with severe injuries, including head trauma and internal bleeding. His condition was not immediately known.
Police said that one of the five cars left the scene and has not been identified. In addition, the driver of a BMW was arrested on two felony drug warrants, Gomez said.
No other drivers will be charged, Gomez said.
