The Sports NetworkFebruary 7, 2014

New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jay Hook split a pair of free-throws with a second to play, which lifted the Tulane Green Wave to a 64-63 win over the Charlotte 49ers in a Conference USA battle at Devlin Fieldhouse.

Louis Dabney scored 19 points and Hook contributed 18 for Tulane (12-11, 4-4 C-USA), which ended a two-game slide.

Pierria Henry tallied 14 points and Mike Thorne Jr. had 10 points to match 10 rebounds for Charlotte (14-8, 5-4), which had won back-to-back games entering play. Willie Clayton tacked on 13 points for the 49ers.

At halftime Tulane led, 33-28. The Green Wave hit on 47.6 percent from the field in the opening period, compared to the 36 percent showing from Charlotte.

The 49ers once again shot below 40 percent from the floor in the second frame, but they had seven more field goal attempts. Charlotte erased an eight-point deficit to tie the game at 53-53 on a layup from Terrence Williams with just under a minute to play. After both teams traded turnovers, Hook was fouled and stepped to the line, where he managed to pull the Green Wave ahead. Henry got off a shot at the buzzer but it was off the mark.

Despite the slim margin of victory, there were only three lead changes in the contest.
