Info: A singing valentine delivered by a mens barbershop quartet is a creative way to honor a loved one. The Golden Valley Mens Barbershop Chorus once again is offering to do just that on Valentines Day. A silk rose and a romantic song will be delivered by a quartet, along with a digital photo taken of the recipient and the quartet, for $40. Info: Before the excursion train rides get under way for the year, guests will get a preseason behind-the-scenes view of special activities and demonstrations happening inside and outside the historic roundhouse and shops. Park visitors will have the opportunity to watch important work being conducted on historic locomotives and cars, including the annual maintenance and cleaning of the Hetch Hetchy motor car and the Angels Camp shorty car No. 6. Guests also can see the historic belt-driven machine shop in full operation and filled with activity, plus participate in hourly tours. And, as a special highlight, railroad restoration lead worker George Sapp will present a slide show highlighting the Sierra No. 28 project, provide an in-depth walking tour of work being done on the project and be available to answer questions from park guests. 40 YEARS AGO: The State Department of Transportation opened bids in Sacramento to widen McHenry Avenue to four lanes. The state had put aside $325,500 for the 0.8-mile widening project, including $5,000 from the city of Modesto and $14,000 from Stanislaus County. The expansion would extend from Leveland Lane to north of the Standiford-Sylvan intersection.
