The Merced/Atwater Women’s 500 club is hosting their annual Championship Singles Tournament this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Bellevue Bowl.

The women will be rolling three games of regular bowling using their 2012-13 book average. If none, summer 2013 or current average of 21 games. The tournament is certified by USBC.

The club is adding an additional $100 to the prize fund. Entry fee is $22. This is a local club function and new members are invited. Club members are required to wear their club shirts this Sunday. Entries are available at Bellevue.

League highlights

In the Bellevue senior, Larry Valenti Sr. rolled a league high of 712. Janie Schropp picked up the 7-8-10 split in the Commercial Classic. Friday night handicap had Tom Brewer with a fine 687. Kevin Wagner posted a 659 in the Monday Merchants.

Hall of Fame info

Hall of Fame members association board members met at Bellevue Bowl on Saturday to review and vote on new nominees for the 2014 Merced County Bowling Hall of Fame class. Only a simple majority of votes cast will elect new members.

The new Hall members will be inducted on Saturday, March 29 at the Atwater Community Center. This year, there is one woman and two men up for induction. Sharon Roper, scholarship chair, will be announcing student scholarships next Wednesday. Tickets are now being sold by all association members for the Hall of Fame dinner for $20 this year.

City Championships

I overheard a few association members whining about the cost of our coming City Championship tournament. Our 68th Merced County USBC Championships will be held on March 1 and 2. The cost this year is $25 per event, $10 for all-events. So, if you compete in the team, singles, doubles, and all-events it will cost you $85.

I spoke with our president, Karen Tweed, who said “the increase was due to the board wanting to raise the prize fund up.”

I can see the raise for the prize fund, but it’s still a lot of money to compete. Get your team ready to go for Saturday or Sunday.
