Rain is not expected in Merced until Wednesday, according to forecasters.
Meteorologist Jim Dudley of the National Weather Service in Hanford said the first chance for rain will be next week.
This weekend is actually going to be dry, Dudley said.
Temperatures for the weekend will be in the upper 60s today and lower 70s on Sunday. It will be dry through Tuesday, Dudley said. Next week were looking at a little bit of rain.
Forecasters are looking at a 50 percent chance of rain beginning late Wednesday. At this point were getting fairly confident it will rain, he said. Looks like we can finally get some decent rain.
About one-half inch is expected to fall Wednesday through Thursday, at which point the first of two storms will fizzle out.
A seemingly larger system will move in on Friday and last through the weekend. I dont really know how much rain will fall on Friday, but the stronger of the two is on Friday, Dudley said.
Earlier in the year a ridge of high pressure was forcing storms to go north into Alaska instead of east into California. That particular ridge is no longer there, so the normal pattern of storms can start happening now, he said.
