February 24, 2014

— Atwater police are searching for a 43-year-old Ceres man wanted in connection with a stabbing this week near Ralston Park.

Robert Flores Carranza is suspected of stabbing a 29-year-old man during a birthday party Sunday, according to Lt. Samuel Joseph. Police went to the scene at 2:18 p.m. and found the victim with wounds that were not life-threatening.

Police said the victim is a Bay Area resident who was visiting Atwater to attend the birthday party of a juvenile niece.

The victim approached Carranza and told him that he did not want any problems at the party, police said, because the suspect and his wife were separated. Police said Carranza attacked the victim, who sustained several severe lacerations to his left upper and lower arm.

The victim was taken to a Modesto hospital for treatment.

Carranza fled the scene in a white Kia, California license plate DP195AZ, police said, andis believed to have the knife used in the assault.

A photograph of the suspect is not available. He’s described as Latino, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. A “be-on-the-lookout” alert was issued to law enforcement agencies in Merced and Stanislaus counties.

Atwater police are asking anyone with information about Carranza’s whereabouts to call Detective David Brum at (209) 357-6394. Tips are kept confidential and anyone providing information about the case can remain anonymous.
