The Merced County Old Timers Association is looking for individuals to honor at the 72nd annual Old Timers Luncheon. The Old Timers committee was formed in 1942 to honor individuals who are 85 years of age or older who have lived in Merced County for 50 years or longer. This years luncheon will be April 27 at the Italo-American Lodge. Honorees will get a free lunch as well as certificates and proclamations from elected officials and the entities they represent, including the Merced County Board of Supervisors. Eastern Star breakfast
The Yosemite Gateway Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will hold a breakfast fundraiser from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Merced Masonic Center, 1810 M St.. The meal includes scrambled eggs, hash browns, ham, apricot crepes, cinnamon rolls and cranberry scones, as well as juice, coffee, tea and milk. Youths to gather
Young people are invited to a Youth Assembly on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the foyer of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St. The Youth Assembly is open to students from eighth through 12th grades who attend school in Merced. The event was organized by the Merced Youth Task Force, a group of students with adult advisers who are working to create a Youth Council. The Merced City Council wants to establish the Youth Council to improve communications with young people in the city.
