outreach and enrollment
An Affordable Care Act outreach and enrollment event will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Merced Senior Center, located at 755 W. 15th St. The event is free. People will be able to apply for health coverage, speak with certified enrollment counselors, learn about the health care law benefits and programs. Free tax return help
The AARP TaxAide program will prepare tax returns free for low- and middle-income people every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until April 10 at the Merced Senior Center, 755 W. 15th St. No appointment is necessary. All volunteers are trained and certified using IRS material. You do not have to be a senior to receive this free service.
Free gardening seminar
A free seminar, “Jump-Start Your Summer Vegetable Garden,” will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Merced Gardens and Nursery on Highway 59. Call (209) 384-0513 for more information.
Driver improvement class
The Merced College Office of Education will hold a Mature Driver Improvement Class for seniors age 50 and older March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Atwater Community Center, 760 Bellevue Road. Call (209) 381-6540 to preregister and get more information.
Lions Breakfast Club
The Merced Breakfast Lions Club maintains a series of drop-off locations for used and unused prescription eyeglasses or hearing aids. Drop off at the offices of Drs. Disabled American Veterans seeks volunteers
If you want to help veterans, Disabled American Veterans is looking for men and women to be volunteer drivers. Our nation’s heroes travel around the globe to protect our freedoms, so it’s only right to return their dedication. Volunteering to drive a vet ensures that even those who live some distance from Veterans Administration hospitals can make their appointments and not go without the treatment they need.
