Masked suspect sought in Atwater market robbery

March 3, 2014

— A masked man who claimed he was armed with a handgun robbed an Atwater market late last week, police reported Monday.

The man entered Bobbi’s Market in the 1100 block of First Street on Friday evening, the Atwater Police Department said in a brief statement. The suspect took about $200 in cash from the register, Lt. Sam Joseph said. No one was injured.

Police said the robber, who may have been a teenage boy, concealed his face with some type of rag. He used another rag to conceal his hand and claimed he was armed, though no gun was seen, police said in a news release.

Police described the robber as a black male, possibly between 15 and 18 years old, wearing a light-colored jacket. He was last seen running east in a nearby alley.

“Detectives are working this case very hard,” Joseph said. “Any help we could be from the public would be of great assistance.”
