Reading Society

Eyeglasses wanted

An area optometrist is asking for eyeglass donations. Neil Nebeker and his wife, Leslie, will be traveling to Mexicali, Mexico, with the Groveland Rotary Club as part of an outreach medical clinic. They would like to collect 1,000 pairs of used eyeglasses, which will be analyzed and cataloged for distribution. Glasses should be in good condition without deep scratches, broken frames or missing lenses. They can be donated at Nebeker’s at Advanced Healthcare, 197 W. El Portal Drive, Suite A, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (209) 384-2110.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Softball league rosters

Dinner-auction fundraiser

Love in the Name of Christ annual dinner-auction fundraiser will be at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Gateway Community Church, 353 E. Donna Drive. Tickets are $20 each or $150 for a table of eight. There will be a live auction, silent auction, dessert auction, gift raffle and 50-50 cash raffle. Day of Prayers

Church Women United will have its annual World Day of Prayers from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the First Church of Christ Holiness USA, 509 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. “Streams in the Desert” is the theme. Volunteers will present the program, featuring the country of Egypt. Light refreshments will be available. All women are invited to attend. Call (209) 722-61001 for more info.
