Youth cheer sign-ups

Thunder Youth Cheer will be taking registration for the 2014 Cheer Season from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on March 15 at Osborn Park.

Merced College luncheon

Merced College Retired Women’s monthly luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at LaHacienda 2, 3355 G St.. Women who are retired and those still working at the college are invited. For more information, call (209) 358-5376.

Sheriff candidate dinner

There will be a dinner in support of Frank Swiggart for Merced County Sheriff with a no-host social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. todayat the Le Grand American Legion Hall, 12560 Le Grand Road. Tickets are $20 per person for a chicken-with-beans dinner and dessert auction. Tables for eight are available for $250. Prayer breakfast

Women of Love Outreach Ministry will host a Prayer Breakfast Fellowship from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Courtyard by Marriott, 750 Motel Drive. The National Association for Uniformed Services, H. Wayne Hein Chapter 18, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Atwater Veteran’s Memorial Building, 1390 Broadway. The speaker will be Rep. Jim Costa of the 16th Congressional District. For more information, call (209) 358-2045.

Polenta and chicken

The Italian Catholic Federation is having a polenta and chicken dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Italo American Lodge, 18th and U streets. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children under 12. Tickets may also be used for takeout dinners at the kitchen door. For tickets, call Robyn Piro at (209) 383-4817 or email pirorl@aol.com. No tickets are sold at the door. Proceeds from the dinner are used for scholarships and other community and religious programs.

Tea party meeting

The Merced-Atwater Tea Party will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 20 at the VFW Hall on 5th Street and Broadway in Atwater. Everyone is invited to attend and meet the candidates for Merced County District 3 supervisor.

The Atwater post of Veterans of Foreign Wars, which has a breakfast the first Sunday of the month and hamburger night every Wednesday, is looking for new members. For more information, call (209) 358-7224.
