California Highway Patrol looking for driver in Winton hit-and-run

March 17, 2014

— A driver who left the scene of an injury crash Monday in Winton is wanted for questioning by the California Highway Patrol.

Carl Smith, 61, suffered unspecified “minor to moderate” injuries when he “laid down his motorcycle” to avoid a collision, Officer Moises Onsurez told the Sun-Star.

The Winton resident was flown to an area hospital for treatment, the CHP said.

Smith was heading north on Winton Way about 1:30 p.m. when a vehicle pulled out from Camellia Drive in front of the oncoming motorcycle, the CHP said.

Smith avoided a collision but was injured.

The vehicle was last seen heading south on Winton Way.

The CHP is asking for the public’s help identifying the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP at (209) 356-2966.
