Volunteer tutors sought
Volunteer tutors are needed at the Merced County Library for its Read and Succeed adult literacy program. There will be an orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 2100 O St., and a training session will follow from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 29 at the library. Central Valley Opportunity Center has six scholarships of $1,500 each to award to high school students in Madera, Merced and Stanislaus counties this year. Each will be awarded on a competitive basis. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and plan to attend a post-secondary educational institution in the fall. Tea party set at museum
The Merced Courthouse Museum will host its 19th annual Tea Party from 12:30 to 4 p.m. April 5 in the Historic Courtroom. Mar-TEA Gras Tea Party is this years theme and there will be four seatings. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under, and each seating will last 40 minutes. For more information, call (209) 723-2401.
Kite Festival next month
Livingstons third annual Kite Festival will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 6 at Livingston Middle School, 101 F St. The festival is free. Activities include a kite-building contest, pie-eating contest, face painting, bounce houses, food/crafts and kite vendor booths. The first 500 kids will receive a free kite. Proceeds benefit youth sports.
