Merced police are trying to contact the family of a 82-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a car earlier this month.

Police said Phanh Chanthathep remains in critical condition in a regional hospital. Although the crash happened March 14, police were unable to confirm Chanthathep’s identity until Tuesday.

Chanthathep was flown to a trauma center after being struck by a car at 11:07 p.m. near R and West 23rd streets. Police said Chanthathep’s wife, Sa Chanthathep, was struck and killed by a vehicle Dec. 21, 2012. Sa Chanthathep was walking across West 23rd Street near H Street when she was hit by a vehicle.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of Phanh Chanthathep’s family to call Sgt. Jay Struble (209) 385-4739 or the Merced Police Department automated tipline at (209) 385-4725. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
