Artists representing a multitude of modes and genres will take over downtown Merced on Saturday, as the Art Hop once again provides a night of entertainment for the entire family.
Festivities for Saturdays event kick off at 5 p.m. and end at 9 on West Main Street, between I and N streets. Twenty-nine businesses and 40 artists are participating in the event, according to organizers.
With the warmer temperatures and extended hours of daylight, organizers are hoping for a high level of turnout.
Were hoping to hit at least 3,000. It seems like when schools are in session it does a little better, said Kevin Hammon, who co-founded the event with Kimberly Zamora.
Hammon said organizers for the event received good news last week, as Merced Art Hops nonprofit status was finalized with the Internal Revenue Service. Hammon said the Art Hop previously had to operate under the auspices of other nonprofit groups.
Now were finally on our own, so were super excited about that, Hammon said.
Danny Loreto is the featured artist of the quarter for Saturdays event. Loretos art will be on display during the event at Binary Systems Computer Repair, 600 W. Main St. There will also be a drum circle at Coffee Bandits, 309 W. Main St.
The Before I Die wall project will also return to Arbor Walk South during the Art Hop. The project is a collection of musings by the public, and participants asked to finish the statement Before I die ...
