Merced police are looking for the occupants of a stolen car that evaded officers after a pursuit that lasted several minutes and ended in a crash on Thursday.

Police received a report just after midnight that a stolen brown Chevrolet Suburban was traveling in the 1900 block of R Street.

When police got to the scene, the Suburban was traveling south on R Street. Officers tried to pull the car over in the 1500 block of R Street, but the driver sped off, police said.

The driver drove through stop signs and red lights without stopping, police said. But the Suburban ended up striking a building and then a tree in the 800 block of R Street, and the occupants fled on foot.

Officers searched the area but did not find anyone.

Police asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Sgt. Brian Rodriguez at (209) 385-4710. Information can also be left anonymously on the Merced Police Department tipline at (209) 385-4725.
