Authorities in Mariposa County are asking for the public’s help locating a 78-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease who disappeared from his home Tuesday night.

Folker “Karl” Sehmsdorf is considered “at risk,” the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Sehmsdorf walked away from his home Tuesday night and was last seen around 7:45 p.m. walking south on Highway 49 between Watt Road and Kimble Road in Mariposa County, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Department is assisting with the search. Madera sheriff’s deputies said they issued an automated emergency notification Wednesday to all households and businesses in Oakhurst and Ahwahnee.

The Sheriff’s Department released photographs of Sehmsdorf, but noted he no longer has facial hair as the photos depict.

Sehmsdorf is a 5-foot-11-inch Caucasian male, weighing 160 pounds, with a medium build. He has hazel eyes and gray hair. If anyone has any information about Sehmsdorf, call the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office at (209) 966-3615.
