Chad Orton: Discrimination just isn’t funny

May 2, 2014

It is distressing that so many still evidence racial bigotry. It is encouraging, though, that even more rise up to denounce those who do. However, even if racial bigotry were totally eliminated, it would not solve the problem of discrimination. As long as people can lump others into faceless groups, they will make nasty remarks and scurrilous jokes about such as congressmen, NRA members, Obama fans, police officers, evangelical Christians and a host of others. I have been guilty of repeating demeaning jokes about lawyers, a vice not mitigated by saying that some of my best friends are in the legal profession.
