Ann Ruiz: Cockfighting has been part of culture

May 20, 2014

In response to the column “Remove the taboo against cockfighting” (Opinions, May 9): Sometimes we say and do things out of ignorance. Cockfighting in some countries is traditional, the same as bullfighting.

In this country, as in other countries, the sport of watching two people fight it out in a ring is acceptable.

My point is, in a civilized society the sports mentioned should not be acceptable. However, these sports have become a part of culture over many, many years.
