Certified Farmers Market

The Original Merced County Certified Farmers Market happens 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays at the shopping center off Yosemite Avenue and Paulson Road, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays at 18th and N streets. For more information, go to www.mercedcfm.com.

Vacation Bible School

Merced senior casino day

The Merced Senior Social Club will celebrate its 60th anniversary July 11 and all are welcome. The event will feature prizes and lunch, catered by the BBQ Pit, served at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $5 for members and $6 for nonmembers. New Beginnings Merced

New Beginnings Merced is a nonprofit dedicated to saving shelter animals and finding them new homes. The group needs volunteers, especially those who can care for kittens or dogs and their puppies for a short time. Help with photographing shelter animals is needed, as are people who can transport them to rescue organizations, for which no personal vehicles are needed. For more information, call (209) 769-2122.

Eyeglasses needed

The Merced Breakfast Lions Club maintains a series of drop-off locations for used and new prescription eyeglasses or hearing aids. Items can be dropped off at the offices of Dr. David Baba, 3178 Collins Drive; Dr. Paul Smith, 840 W. Olive Ave., Suite 103; or Drs. Matthew and Jeffrey Lee, 708 W. 20th St., Suite A. Items also can be dropped off at Save Mart, 150 W.
