Aviators blown out by Top Speed Baseball in home doubleheader

Sun-Star staff reportJune 12, 2014

It was a rough afternoon at the ballpark for the Atwater Aviators on Wednesday.

Undefeated Top Speed Baseball completed a doubleheader sweep in emphatic fashion, thumping their hosts 10-3 and 22-1 at Blue Devil Field.

Things started well enough for Atwater, with Evan Mason launching a three-run home run in the first inning of the opener. The Aviators (1-4) were outscored 32-1 the rest of the way.

Atwater sent 10 pitchers to the mound on the afternoon, with only Shinnosuke Yagi failing to give up at least one earned run in his one-third of an inning.

Top Speed Baseball’s staff was a little more effective.

Alex Watson tossed three shutout innings of relief to earn the win in the opener and Jaramy Jacobs allowed just one hit in four shutout innings to get the victory in the nightcap.

Steven Knudson homered in each game for TSB (9-0) and drove in four on the day.

Mason was the only Atwater player with multiple hits on the afternoon, adding a double in the second game.

Atwater will finish the week with a five-game road trip.
