With raises kicking in for most California state employees on July 1, The State Worker is taking a look at 2013 salaries by union bargaining unit.

The numbers feeding the series come from the state controller’s payroll database. The figures include only full-time employees represented by one of the 21 bargaining units that negotiate contracts with the state. Employees who earned of less than $1,000 last year were excluded from the calculations. University of California and California State University employee earnings are not included in these figures.

We also are including data from 2011 and 2012 statistics for purposes of comparison. During the three-year span these numbers cover, state employees went on and off furlough twice. A new top-step pay increase kicked in last summer. Meanwhile, long-time state workers retired. Keep those events in mind as you look at the figures.

Now, SEIU Local 1000, bargaining units 15, 17, 20, and 21.
