One arrested, 4-plus pounds of marijuana seized in Merced

Sun-Star StaffJune 25, 2014

A routine probation search Tuesday in Merced ended with one man behind bars and the seizure of more than 4 pounds of marijuana, the Merced Police Department reported.

Police spotted 42-year-old Roberto Santana about 9:30 a.m., driving a Chevrolet Avalanche on R Street. Aware that Santana had previously been arrested on methamphetamine charges, officers followed him to his home in the 700 block of R Street, according to a police news release.

Officers confirmed that Santana was driving without a license and was on probation, police said.

During a subsequent search of Santana’s home, officers found the marijuana and a box of .38-caliber ammunition, which Santana is prohibited from possessing, police said.

He was booked at the Merced County Jail on suspicion of possession and sales of marijuana and being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Police are seeking additional information in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Merced police Sgt. Rodriguez at (209) 385-4710 or the tip line at (209) 385-4725.
