What: DRIVER REFRESHER CLASS

When: Thursday, 9 a.m.

Where: Modesto Senior Center, 211 Bodem St.

Info: AARP will hold a four-hour refresher driver safety class for the first 20 registrants. Completion of the course will renew a mature-driver insurance discount. For more information or to register to attend, call (209) 341-2974.


Ceres

What: CONSTRUCTION DAY

When: Thursday, 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Where: Ceres branch of the Stanislaus County Library, 2250 Magnolia St.

Info: The Ceres library will host a Construction Day for children to create structures using marshmallows and spaghetti. Children younger than 4 require direct adult supervision. For more information, call the Ceres library at (209) 537-8938.


Riverbank

What: REO SPEECH TRAIN MEETING

When: Wednesday, 6:30 a.m.

Where: Perko’s Cafe, 2120 Patterson Road

YESTERYEARS

75 YEARS AGO: Plans were hastened to create a mosquito control district. The formation of the district was authorized by the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors. The next step for the supervisors was to name a board of trustees for the district, which would have its headquarters in Modesto and encompass 38 square miles.
