Volunteers open tournament with three victories

— The Merced Volunteers opened up the Reno Muckdogs Tournament by winning their first three games.

The Volunteers won a pair of games on Friday with a 9-1 win over Future Prospects and a 9-1 win over the Humboldt Eagles.

Carlo Del Real hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs against the Future Prospects. Darin Dupont added two hits and Kaden Verdin gave up just two hits in seven innings. Del Real and Josh May both his two-run homer against Humboldt. Brian Womack pitched seven innings for the win.

The Volunteers opened up the tournament with a 12-7 win over the Tri-City Gamblers on Thursday. May, Efrain Del Rio, Dupont and Lawrence Anderson all had two hits with Del Rio and Anderson driving in a pair of runs and Dupont stealing three bases. Isidro Mendoza hit a pinch-hit three-run homer in the ninth.
