Charlie Gay: McDaniel a true public servant

June 27, 2014

I can’t help admiring energetic difference-maker Daron McDaniel over his civic dedication in improving local government and helping incentivize private-sector growth. As a fiscally conservative entrepreneur, McDaniel has sparked a voter split in the county Supervisor District 4 contest. That, and other dynamics, should curtail challenger Tony Dossetti’s longtime public sector career stay.

McDaniel’s stands on the issues, coupled with his personal work ethic, will likely help increase business opportunities and much-needed jobs throughout Merced County. Kudos to his positive, informed, voter-centered campaign.

Those officials who are currently grinning from earmark to earmark had best lose their cravings for discretionary slush funds, and learn the advantages of building up general-fund reserves. McDaniel is stressing the need to eliminate governmental red tape that discourages private industry from locating at the former Castle Air Force Base.

We need more public service activists with backbone like Daron McDaniel – and fewer boneheads.

One more shout-out to McDaniel for his proactive positions regarding economic development, energy, water management, public safety, education and budgetary policy. As Rep. Jeff Denham’s field representative, McDaniel is serving the Valley well.
