A man was arrested Tuesday morning after being caught allegedly stealing cigarettes from a closed business, according to police.

The Los Banos Police Department responded at 1:48 a.m. to a business in the 1300 Block of Pacheco Boulevard to investigate a burglar alarm.

Sgt. Brent Torongo arrived and met with a store employee at the business.

As officers began checking the inside of the store, they located Isaac Robles,19, of Los Banos, removing cigarettes from a shelf and placing them inside of a bag, police said.

Robles was taken into custody without incident.

As officers continued to check the inside of the store, they discovered a 17-year-old male attempting to run out of the business.

The teen had to be physically restrained, police said.

Robles was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is in Merced County Jail pending $15,000 bond. The 17-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of burglary and was transported to the Merced County Juvenile Hall.

“Our officers did an outstanding job apprehending both suspects and saving the business from what could have been a significant theft,” said police Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr.
