Volunteers split first two games in Fairfield tournament

— The Merced Volunteers rebounded from an opening loss in the Western Amateur Baseball Federation Tournament on Thursday with a 10-0 win over Napa.

Efrain Del Rio pitched five innings to pick up the win. He allowed two hits and struck out three.

Chad May, Sai Davuluri and Tyler Skelton each had two hits.

The Volunteers (13-8) opened the tourney with a 10-3 loss to Lodi, with Merced giving up seven runs in the top of the seventh.

May, Carlo Del Real and Skelton each had two hits. Davuluri gave up three runs in six innings. Alex Ortega took the loss in relief. Eight of Lodi’s runs were unearned.

The Volunteers are back in action today in the WABF at 10 a.m. against Yolo Post 77 and 1 p.m. against the Chico Nuts.
