Volunteers fourth in tournament

— The Merced Volunteers finished in fourth place at the Western Amateur Baseball Federation Tournament over the weekend.

Lodi defeated the Volunteers 7-1 on Sunday. Merced was led by Sai Davuluri, who went 2 for 2 with an RBI. Justin Prichard added a double.

The Volunteers (15-9) won two games on Saturday. Brian Womack pitched seven innings in a 3-1 win over Yolo Post 77. Womack struck out seven and gave up four hits. Craig Bettis went 2 for 3 and Tyler Skelton doubled.

Merced then defeated Chico 4-1 to win its pool. Prichard had two hits and three RBIs. Evan Hanneman also had two hits. Carlo Del Real pitched seven innings, surrendering five hits and striking out seven.

Merced will leave for a tournament in Las Vegas on Thursday.
