ATWATER — A tight game quickly got away from the Atwater Aviators on Tuesday evening as its bullpen imploded.
Kyle Treadway and Tyler Daily combined to allow six runs on five hits and four walks in a decisive seventh inning. The Sacramento Legends never looked back, tacking on four more runs in the eighth and cruising to a 12-2 victory at Memorial Ballpark.
The loss was the sixth straight for John Boyett’s squad and dropped the team to 13-21 on the season.
Tuesday started promising enough.
Tanner Robinson singled and then moved to third on a throwing error while stealing second. Darren Trainor brought him home with a groundout to give the Aviators a 1-0 lead.
The Legends answered with two runs in the third, but the Aviators’ Nkosi Djehuti-Mes knotted things right back up with a run-scoring single in the sixth.
The wheels fell off for Atwater after that.
The Legends struck for 10 runs on eight hits and six walks off three Atwater relief pitchers in the seventh and eighth innings.
Kert Woods and Rhet Montana produced half of the Aviators’ hits in the game, each picking up two singles in the loss.
Atwater will hit the road for a doubleheader against the Healdsburg Prune Packers on Thursday and then return home for four games this weekend, kicking off a 16-game homestand to finish the season.
