19-year-old man arrested in suspected DUI crash

A 19-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of DUI after a solo vehicle rollover crash in Merced injured his passenger.

Nicholas Tovar was taken into custody after the crash, reported at 3:15 a.m. in the 3600 block of San Jose Avenue. When police arrived they found the vehicle flipped over on its side, according to a Merced Police Department press release.

Tovar’s 18-year-old female passenger was taken to Mercy Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. Police noticed that Tovar displayed symptoms of intoxication and gave him a field sobriety test. Afterward, police arrested him on suspicion of DUI resulting in injury to another person, the release said.
