Modesto police K-9 unit gets new look, new trading cards

Bee Staff ReportsJuly 10, 2014

The six members of the Modesto Police Department’s K-9 unit have new uniforms and had their pictures taken Wednesday for some new trading cards.

Members of the K-9 unit pass out the trading cards while doing promotional events.

Lt. Brian Findlen, canine unit commander, said the trading cards are popular among children in the area.

The unit added two members six months ago, Findlen said, so the group was overdue to take pictures for some new cards.

The group of six dogs and their handlers met in downtown Modesto on Wednesday for pictures in front of the Police Department building.

According to the department’s website, patrol K-9s are used to search for criminal suspects as well as lost or missing persons. The dogs also are used for tracking and evidence searches. They are used to apprehend fleeing suspects when ordered to do so by their handlers, the website says.
