The Fresno BeeJuly 13, 2014

An early morning accident between two motorcycles west of Highway 99 left one rider dead and the other with major injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.

Two motorcycles were traveling west on Olive Avenue at an unknown speed just after 4:30 a.m. when the driver of a 2005 Yamaha slowed to turn north onto Valentine Avenue.

That's when the driver of a 2006 Honda attempted to pass the Yamaha on the right side, the CHP said.

The two motorcycles collided and the drivers were thrown off. The Yamaha driver, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

It's not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
