Two nights of Destruction Derby at the Stanislaus County Fair kicked off in the FoodMaxx Arena on Monday with “Traditional Turmoil.” In an event equated to real-life bumper cars, drivers were judged simply on the number of hits made to other vehicles. The arena action continues today at 6:30 p.m. with Destruction Derby II, “Metal Mayhem.” It consists of four separate “one-shot” classes, including subcompacts, powder puff (females only), lightweight (1980 and newer) and ’60s and ’70s heavyweights. The mayhem also includes some of the drivers and cars that survived “Traditional Turmoil.” Cost, in addition to fair admission, is $8 general bleacher seating, $10 reserved. Tickets may be purchased online at the fair’s website,, or at the fair office, 900 N. Broadway, Turlock.
