The filing date began July 14 for open seats on local school boards for the November election. Candidates have until Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. to file nomination papers with the Madera County Clerk’s office.
The Aug. 8 filing date will be extended until Aug. 13 if an incumbent fails to file.
There are three open seats on the Chowchilla Union High School District Board, areas 2, 4 and 5; three on the Chowchilla Elementary School District Board, areas 2, 4, and 5; and three on the Alview-Dairyland Union School District Board, areas 1, 2, and 4.
The three incumbents on the high school board are Charlene Espinola, Pat DeWall and Mike Cargill. As of Monday morning, Espinola and Cargill had pulled papers.
The incumbents for Chowchilla Elementary are Leslie Rogers, Conrad Gaunt and Ken Lasiter.
The Alview-Dairyland open seats are currently filled by Tom Fry, Kelsey Bruecker and Reis Soares.
Board members serve a four-year term of office. A candidate must be:
• Eighteen years of age.
• Be a citizen of the State of California.
• Be a registered voter.
• Be a resident of the school district or trustee area.
• Not be disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office.
Terms begin Dec. 5.
