Man makes 2nd try to ship drugs

TURLOCK -- A man was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to mail drugs or drug-related materials from a Staples store for the second time in two months, according to police.

The package the man tried mailing Monday contained a powder that was a precursor to methamphetamine production, Lt. Ron Reid said.

When he tried mailing the package, employees at the Staples recalled him as the same man who tried to mail 19.3 pounds of marijuana to an address in Lindenwold, N.J., in May, Reid said.

Two months ago, according to Reid, the man entered the Staples trying to mail the marijuana via overnight delivery at a cost of about $200. Reid said Staples has a policy to open suspicious packages, and did so when police arrived. They discovered the marijuana.
