Suspect offered deal

A man whom authorities say strangled seven women throughout Central California is getting a chance to plead guilty to murders to avoid the death penalty.

San Joaquin County prosecutors say they will offer 70-year-old Roger Kibbe the deal at an Aug. 17 hearing.

Kibbe is accused of murdering five women in 1986 and one in 1977 along Interstate 5 in the Central Valley, giving him the nickname "I-5 Strangler."
