First Lady's appearance at UC Merced commencement gives boost to young university
When first lady Michelle Obama took the stage at UC Merced's Class of 2009 commencement ceremony, she asked the crowd to applaud the 511 graduating students sitting in front of her. "I am just so proud of these graduates," Obama said. "And to the graduates and their families and the entire community of Merced, I am so pleased, so thrilled, so honored to be here with all of you today."
