Merced law enforcement officials urged resident to take “common sense” steps to protect themselves as the holiday shopping season kicks off and stores anticipate a crush of customers looking for price deals on Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year.


Merced girls take to baking to help the needy

Three third-grade girls heard that some people in Merced have a hard time affording a Thanksgiving meal, so they did something about it – a bake sale. They raised more than $500, which will feed the equivalent of about 286 people during the Merced County Rescue Mission’s free holiday meal for the less fortunate.

Weapons, drugs seized in house search

A Merced man who was serving a jail sentence on a work-release program was arrested again Tuesday after sheriff’s deputies found a loaded handgun, a stun gun and two bags of crystal methamphetamine at his home, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department said.
