New art highlighted at Merced Multicultural Arts Center

Artists and guests rubbed elbows Thursday during the opening night of a show at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center. The show combines the semiannual “The Really Big Show,” which is made up of established Arbor Gallery artists from the region, with the work of up-and-coming talent. While giving artists a chance to display their work, the show also brings Merced’s relatively small arts community together to meet and share ideas.

Merced County’s jobless rate remains level at 10.3%

The unemployment rate in Merced County remained unchanged last month at 10.3 percent, but was more than a percentage point down from the same time last year. The county lost 200 farm jobs since the previous month but added jobs in other industries, according to numbers from the Employment Development Department. The rate has improved since the 12 percent jobless rate measured in October 2013.
