The City of Merced, partnering with the Central Valley Red Cross, hosted a pool party celebrating the opening of McNamara Pool for the summer season. The pool was open an extra hour to allow for more swimming during the day. Entrance to the pool was free, with the cost being paid for by the Red Cross. The party began at noon with a free hot dog feed, and the pool was open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Opening ceremonies for the pool began at 1:30 p.m. with comments from City officials, other local officials, and representatives of the Red Cross and Pacific Gas and Electric. The Red Cross used a grant from PG&E to help fund the event.
