Recreation Department offers line dancing classes
The City of Merced’s Recreation Department will offer dance lessons at 7 p.m. through Oct. 23. The theme for October is Line Dances and Party Dances. Cost is a $16 registration fee and $6 supplies fee. Call (209) 385-6298 or register at 678 W. 18th St.
Merced County Reading Society to meet today
The Merced County Reading Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at Barnes & Noble on Olive Avenue. They group will read “The Power of Myth” by Joseph Campbell. Newcomers are welcome. Call (209) 725-1868.
Hornitos club holds annual flea market on Sunday

United for Life will host Life Chain for 2013
Merced United for Life will host the Life Chain for 2013 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday on Olive Avenue between M Street and Walmart.
Orders being taken for Flags for Warriors
The American Legion Auxiliary Merced Unit 83 is taking orders for Flags for Warriors. Flags will be posted at the veterans Memorial Hall on Labor Day and Veterans Day with an inscription in memory or in honor of your hero. Cost is $10 per flag. Proceeds will benefit programs and services for veterans and Girls State. Call (209) 722-8233.
Atwater VFW disposing of damaged flags
The Atwater VFW will properly dispose of any flags that are torn, soiled or tattered. Drop off flags at the post, 1390 Broadway. The VFW also holds a Hamburger Night every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. It also provides wheelchairs and walkers at no charge to veterans in need. For details, call (209) 358-7224.
Area seniors offered free legal services
Central California Legal Services Inc. and Merced County provide free legal services to seniors. Clients must live in Merced County, be 60-plus years old and U.S. citizens. Appointments are available to seniors in Dos Palos, Livingston, Los Banos, Atwater and Merced. Call (209) 385-7550.
