SPCA meeting

The Merced Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 500 Buena Vista Drive, except when the first Monday is a holiday. Call (209) 723-8953 or (209) 384-7722.

Snelling breakfast

The monthly Snelling breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 27 at the IOOF Hall. The meals is pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs cooked to order, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The next breakfast will be in February.

Computer training

The Merced County Office of Education has computer training classes through Dec. 11. All classes are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 632 W. 13th St. Cost is $75 per class. Deadline to register is a week before the class starts. Call (209) 381-6630 or go to for classes and dates.

Oktoberfest celebration

Rivera Middle School will have its annual Oktoberfest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $7. Activities include face painting, bobbing for apples, mini golf, bowling, Angry Birds, horseshoes and spin the wheel. There will be food and shaved ice available for purchase. Money raised will fund scholarships for eighth-graders. Call (209) 385-6680 for more information.

Women’s retreat

Triumphant Believers Center will hold We are God’s Light Women’s Retreat from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at God’s Temple in Atwater. Also, there will be praise and worship praise dancers from Liberty Fellowship. $10 registration fee includes breakfast. Call (209) 631-8942 or (209) 407-0251.

Kiwanis Club breakfast

Kiwanis Club will have its anual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. until noon Sunday in the Merced High School cafeteria. It’s a fundraiser for the youth programs the club sponsors and scholarships it provides. $7 for adults and $25 for a family of five. Call 209-383-9711.

Atwater VFW

The Atwater VFW Club Hall is available to rent for parties. It holds 150 people and has a full-service kitchen. Hamburger Night is every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Call (209) 358-7224.
