Shelter in need of supplies
ATWATER – The D Street Homeless Shelter is in need of some basic hygiene supplies such as shampoo, conditioner, small bars of soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and general hygiene items. Rescue Mission holiday dinner
Merced County’s Rescue Mission will host a traditional “Holiday Dinner,” without charge, on both Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, to those in need (men, women, and children). They will also be distributing clothes and toys. Help them reach their goal and feed 3,000 Merced County residents. Drop items off from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, at the mission. Volunteer to serve, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Nov. 28, at the American Legion Hall at 939 W. Main Street in Merced and/or from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Dec. 24, same location. Call (209) 722-9269.
Free legal advice
Central California Legal Services offers legal advice and representation to eligible individuals involved in tenant rights and homeless issues, Social Security and SSI disability claims, CalWorks, Medi-Cal, unemployment, and CalFresh (food stamp) cases and much more. Maternity home offers aid
JMJ Maternity Homes, a faith-based nonprofit, provides homeless pregnant women with shelter, resources, and support services in a nurturing Christian environment. Its maternity and resident programs provide shelter and support services to facilitate prenatal and postpartum health, counseling, case management, food, clothing, and more. Castle Air Museum seeks volunteers

Animal shelter group needs help
New Beginnings Merced, an area nonprofit group dedicated to saving shelter animals and finding them new homes, needs volunteers. Especially needed are people who can care for kittens for a few days, or dogs and their new puppies for a short time. Also needed are people to help take photos of shelter animals or to help transport animals to rescue organizations. No personal vehicles are needed for transportation. Call (209) 769-2122.
